The German grenadier companies were detached from their five regiments and combined to form a Brunswick grenadier battalion under the command of Colonel von Breymann. Like their British counterparts, the German grenadiers were big men. They wore tall, polished miter caps of brass or tin over hair that on good days was tightly curled and powdered white.
